about
This exhibition challenges the industry's reductive view of production designers as mere executors of others' visions. While directors and writers often receive primary recognition for a production's visual identity, this showcase reveals how production designers infuse their distinctive artistic sensibilities into every frame, stage, and space they create.
Far from being technical laborers, production designers are visual storytellers who translate narrative concepts into immersive worlds through their unique aesthetic language. The featured artists demonstrate how their personal artistic practices inform and enrich their production work—and conversely, how their professional craft influences their independent creative expressions. By focusing exclusively on their fine art practice, this exhibition invites visitors to reconceptualize production designers not as craftspeople who occasionally make art, but as artists who bring their sophisticated visual sensibilities to production design. The exhibition celebrates these multi-dimensional creators and the rich cross-pollination between their artistic practices and industry work, while asserting their rightful place in the contemporary art conversation.
The work will amount in an in-person and online exhibit which brings production designers from all technical backgrounds together.
We are inviting submissions from a number of artists and will exhibit as many as we can feature.
